The slinger ring seal and suction seal work together to keep the grease in the bearing.
There are 2 types of slingers.  The most common is the Berkeley/ATJ/New Dom (O.D. measures 1.750)
The Old Dominator is less common and has an O.D. of 1.870 and fits pumps before serial #14444
